Harrington, Maine – March 8, 2019 – Downeast Wind is thrilled to sponsor the Clean AIR Ball basketball tournament at Narraguagas High School, March 15–16, 2019, for the fourth consecutive year. More than 150 young people have participated in the tournament each year, taking to the basketball court for a fun-filled weekend.

Downeast Wind is a proposed 197.4 MW wind energy project located in the Town of Columbia in Washington County. The project has the potential to bring economic benefits to the town and county through tax increment financing.

“Downeast Wind means a brighter future for the youth in Washington County, and not just because it means a cleaner environment,” says Development Manager Paul Williamson. “The project could bring in millions of much-needed dollars to the school district. Those funds could allow our students access to STEM education programs vital to children’s success in an increasingly technology-driven world. The project would lead to increased job opportunities, as wind turbine technician is the fastest growing career in the country.”

Downeast Wind is likely to bring more than $240 million in direct economic benefits to the region over 30 years. The project will create jobs and generate an entirely new source of long-term revenue for these communities and landowners, providing financial security.

“Communities at the forefront of this rapidly growing industry will have other localities looking to them as leaders in renewable energy,” continues Williamson. “Opportunities like that in Washington County also help attract other businesses, which ensure a thriving community.”
